CO2Saver: Windows Power Management
Submitted by todd on Thu, 2007-06-14 22:46
I've been gathering a lot of information lately about reducing my energy consumption for pretty practical reasons: Reduce heat and cost. I even started a little blog to help me keep track of this stuff: GreenTechies.com. So, I was quite interested when I read about...
...which is a freeware Windows utility that claims to manage a computer's power usage. Since I never heard of the company that provides it, Snap.com - a search engine, I scanned it with two virus scanners and read through the entire license before installing it.
From what I can tell CO2 Saver is just a little GUI toolbar that lets you set the existing power management settings built into Windows XP: Screen blank, shut off hard drive. It also has a feel-good status area that tells you many pounds of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) you and others prevented by using the power settings. Cute, but I will probably uninstall it now.
I also can't figure out why the only search engine in its toolbar is Google if Snap.com is a search engine firm itself.
If I missed something here about CO2 Saver or Snap.com, please let me know.
