VIM: Vi Editor

If you grew up on UNIX or Linux, the venerable vi editor is probably still a mainstay in your toolset. You don't have to use UNIX or Linux to use this lightning fast text editor. There is an enhanced Open Source version available for many operating systems.

Vim, like vi, was not designed as an editor that is necessarily intuitive to use. But, as any old vi user can tell you, once you start using it, you find yourself using it for many quick and dirty text editing duties where you can't wait for a larger prettier text editor to launch and render itself on your screen.
