MacFusion: A GUI for Google's MacFuse

MacFusion is a Mac OS X Open Source project that puts a useful and useable graphical interface on Google's MacFuse (Mac File-system in USErspace). It lets you easily use MacFuse to, for example, mount and use user spaces available via ssh, ftp, WebDAV and other FUSE supported file systems as a virtual disk file system. For me, this means I have a replacement for the overpriced Apple .Mac service that I discontinued last year.

There is one current gotcha, however. The current MacFusion release does not work well with the current MacFuse (0.3.0) release. After reading some Google Groups discussions and the MacFusion FAQ, I backed down to the MacFuse 0.2.5 version (linked at the MacFusion FAQ. This older version seems to work fine with the current version of MacFusion.

Hello all, Nice to see

Hello all,
Nice to see MacFusion up here. Hope its useful for people. Just wanted to let you know there will be a new beta out soon, with a few additional bug fixes, support for advanced options in sshfs, and logging support to make debugging easier. Should be ready in a few days. Enjoy

Hi! Version 1.1 of MacFusion

Hi!

Version 1.1 of MacFusion should be released very soon.

If you're happy with your current set-up, then I should probably recommend waiting for 1.1 to go final.

If however you would like to experiment with MacFusion 1.1 Beta 2, it's readily available from the Project web site. With 1.1 Beta 2: some of the more puzzling issues (nearly all of which are fixed, ready for 1.1) are a little difficult to identify at first ... if you find yourself stuck at point, do please let us know. We usually have a workaround or fix very quickly.

MacFusion 1.1 Beta 2 is compatible with (requires) version 0.3.0 of MacFUSE.

MacFusion - a GUI for MacFUSE

Todd, I am a bit confused by

Todd,
I am a bit confused by MacFuse. Can you please be a bit more specific on how you would create such a user space and possibly where one would create this space?
Thank you

Surfbits: These "user

Surfbits: These "user spaces" are generally pre-existing storage areas you have access to on the Internet (or Intranet). In the demo image I used, for example, you can see that I am connected to the space provided by my web hosts for my two web sites. One is accessed using an FTP account/connection while the other is accessed by a more secure SSH session. Normally, one might use the command line (in Mac OS X Terminal) ftp and scp commands to move files between your Mac and these web hosts. However, using MacFusion with the underlying MacFuse, you can mount these spaces on the Internet (given the appropriate login credentials) as if they were hard drives on the Mac. You can find more info at the sites linked in my blog post.
