CNET: Five must-have security/privacy extensions for Firefox
CNET's Chris Soghoian's blog entry titled Five must-have security/privacy extensions for Firefox seems to have a Windows-centric point of view. But, I'm pretty sure the Firefox add-ons recommended apply equally well to a Mac OS X user (or Linux for that matter). Here are the Firefox add-ons he recommends: SafeCache, SafeHistory, Locationbar, NoScript, and CustomizeGoogle.

Interesting set of
Interesting set of extensions, I've always used CustomizeGoogle and am stringent about cookie maintenance so trying these out was a worthwhile trial. However, after a few days I've now uninstalled NoScript and Locationbar. I'm used to & familiar with URL composition so Locationbar wasn't of great value & I found it distracting. NoScript is for the uber paranoid amongst us, I found it just too painful to use, constantly blocking scripts from sites (who doesn't use javascript) constantly requiring attention. If I was paranoid about script malware I'd prefer to run FX in it's own VM on my system thus isolating the browsing experience to a disposable environment.
Thanks for a great service with your "Freeware and Free & Open Source Software" updates.
