Microsoft Live Calendar Beta Missed a Golden Opportunity
Microsoft recently released the beta for their Live Calendar web service. While it looks ok and has reasonable features. It doesn't distinguish itself from the dozens of other web calendars available (most notably Google's). What could Microsoft have done to make it stand out a bit more? How about...
(1) Provide a way for Windows Mobile devices (Pocket PC Phone Edition and Smartphone) to sync directly with it over the air/web. (2) Provide a way for it to sync calendar events to MSN Direct devices (like the various MSN Direct watches). MSN Direct is an orphaned product now. While it is still working (and I still pay an annual fee for services to my watch), it has not added new features in years. You can almost bet that the Google phones that are supposed to emerge sometime in late 2008 will use or sync with Google's various rich web services.
