I'm not a fan of Java or Eclipse. So, I didn't expect much from Sun's recent Java-built IDE release...

NetBeans IDE 6.1

I downloaded the giant 183MB full version only to find out that while it supported Java, C/C++, Ruby and other languages, it did not support PHP. I had to go back and download the 16MB Early Access for PHP version to work with PHP. I've never tried using NetBeans before. So, I was really surprised to find that I liked what I saw after playing with it for a while. It seemed a lot more intuitive than the Eclipse IDE. I'm going to test the full version with Ruby later. If I like what I see, it may stay on my system for a while.

I'm in a Java class that

I'm in a Java class that teaches using JCreator (solid, but very simple). Those who have worked in NetBeans on the side have always had great things to say about it. They say its an impressive piece of software. This is on my to-do list.
