Newer Version of U3 Uninstaller
I don't buy USB flash thumb drives often. But, I happened to buy a 8GB SanDisk a few days ago. Like other SanDisk thumb drives, this one came with the U3 portable applications software pre-installed. I don't like U3. Its auto-installation is intrusive. It slows down my ability to actually use the thumb drive while the software installs. It could potentially be a security issue. And it takes up space I want to use (6MB is still 6MB IMHO). So, I went over to...

...to make sure I had the most current U3 uninstaller. It turns out that the last time I downloaded it was almost exactly a year ago. In that time the uninstaller changed at least in three ways that I can see.
1. The file name changed from u3 uninstall.exe to U3Uninstall.exe
2. The file size increased from 2.533MB to 3.412MB
3. It provides the option to backup the data from the thumb drive and then restore it after removing the U3 partition and software.
I may not be a fan of U3, but kudos to them for providing a functional free uninstaller.

I totally agree with you. U3 is more of a hindrance than a help. And when I buy a thumb drive I don't want to share the capacity with other programs out of the box. I blogged about this back in January here: http://www.geakz.com/2008/01/06/sandisk-u3-removal-program/
