But, it is not being made available to ordinary citizens and small businesses if I'm reading this part of the announcement correctly: DHS-developed detection tool that can be used by the federal government, commercial vendors, state and local governments, and critical infrastructure owners and operators to scan their networks for the Conficker/Downadup computer worm..

Ordinary citizens and small businesses have networks too. So, why can't they (we) get the tool? That said, I'm using a Mac at the moment and not really concerned with Conficker :-)

I've heard from multiple sources that the Conficker worm won't be a threat to Mac users, thank goodness

Conficker only affects

Conficker only affects Microsoft Windows. So, a Mac user running OS X has nothing to worry about. However, if you are running Windows using Bootcamp or a virtual machine containing Microsoft Windows as a Guest OS, you should take the appropriate precautions.
