Hmm. Evernote SSL certificate not valid

by todd on February 22nd, 2012 at 10:57 am

I just noticed that Evernote’s SSL certificate shows up as invalid in Chrome. Not overly concerned at the moment. But, I would like to see this fixed soon.

Here’s what a valid certificate looks like in Chrome.

Skynet: Google wants to build an antenna farm. Skynet and T-800 Terminator are next

by todd on February 20th, 2012 at 1:39 pm

Google more-or-less controls (mostly more) the search engine landscape. It has autonomous cars. Google+ has assimilated other Google properties (including search). Google is bypassing privacy settings in Apple’s Safari and Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers. And, now this…

Google Seeks To Plant Antenna Farm in Iowa (Data Center Knowledge)

Let’s call this Google Skynet. What’s next? Can the T-800 Terminator be far behind? If anyone sees a certain former Governor of California visiting a Google facility for a 3D scanning session, let me know. :-)

Thanks to Tumblr support staff! Actual good support. What a concept!

Two friends and I have a podcast about comic books. So, I created a free Tumblr site as a home for the podcast last year. I pay Podbean to host the actual podcasts. Podbean can create JavaScript to embed a Flash or HTML5-based podcast player on websites. This combination of Tumblr and Podbean worked fine through 2011. Then, something happened around the start of the new year. Neither the Flash nor the HTML5 players showed up on Tumblr when viewed using Firefox, Chrome, or Safari in Windows or OS X. For some reason, it rendered and worked fine in Internet Explorer.

I passed 16 million steps using my Fitbit activity monitor. Hoping to hit 10 million steps sometime in early 2013 at this pace.

5 million step mark – Nov. 2011

msnNow kind of like Flipboard on the web without any personalized curation

by todd on February 15th, 2012 at 11:31 pm
Posted In: Microsoft, Social Networks, Web

Microsoft’s msnNow (now.msn.com) is kind of like Flipboard (the iPad app) for the web. It draws news items based on Bing searches and trends on Facebook and Twitter.

Its problem, from what I see so far, is that most of the items trending to the top are mostly about pop culture with no apparent way to tune it to your own interests or to draw on crowdsourced curation by people you follow on social networks (as Flipboard does). The end result? I don’t think I’ll visit this site very often. Bing News does a better job of showing me things that are interesting.
