Windows Phone 7.5 tip: How to use the new app task list

Windows Phone 7.5 has a lot of new features. One of favorites is its ability to navigate among recently launched apps. You can see how this is done in the video embedded above. You press and hold (long press) the back button at the bottom left of a Windows Phone devices held in portrait mode. This brings up a list of large icons representing recently used apps. Navigation is side-to-side. Tap any of the apps to bring it to the foreground for use.

Bumper crop of app updates. Are these all Mango-ized for Windows Phone 7.5?

After a successful forced update to Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) on an HTC Surround, I decided to update the HTC HD7 that serves as my primary voice phone yesterday. This morning, I saw the biggest group of app updates I’ve ever seen in a single day: 12.

iPhone 4 Camera message: The iPhone needs to cool down before you can use the flash

This is a screenshot of the message I saw after picking up my iPhone 4 to take a photo. The iPhone had been lying idle for at least an hour before being picked up. No calls had come in. Nothing except normal background processing for things like email had been going on as far as I am aware. The air temperature is about 82F: Warm but not hot. So, why this message?

I should also note that I was not trying to use the flash.

I think I may need to make a visit to the local Apple Store Genius Bar soon.

Amazon Kindle Fire Silk web browser server-rendering privacy issue? What about Opera Mini & Skyfire?

Amazon’s soon-to-be-available Kindle Fire tablet’s browser achieves its reputed high performance by using Amazon’s cloud services to perform server-side processing. There’s a bit of hand-wringing going on because of potential privacy problems related to the server side interception and processing of web page requests.

Interesting mini-documentary about the 1st Bing.com home page w/a background video

Ugh. Bursting Duracell Ultra batteries (photos)

The wireless mouse I was using this morning stopped working. When I picked it up, I noticed that its underside looked slimy. Opening up the battery cover revealed that the two Duracell Ultra AA batteries had both burst. I went to the drawer where I had more of these batteries and noticed that the two boxes containing more batteries looked wet and eroded. None of these batteries were new. However, their best used dates were all stated to be March 2012. You can see the batteries and the boxes they were in from a couple of different angles in the photos below.

It was very disappointing to have an entire set of batteries burst like this.

LiveScribe smartpen Mac OS X driver continues its buggy ways

The Livescribe Desktop for Mac OS X started crashing today. However, before doing that it told me that a newer version was available. So, I downloaded version 2.8.1 and installed it. The installation went to completion. However, I continue to get this error message from OS X about the smartpen’s driver.

And, oh yes, hey LiveScribe, could you stop launching LiveScribe Connect everytime I run the Desktop. I never ever need to use it 100% of the time. In fact, I only used it once for testing and do not want it launching all the time.

Alt-Tab still brings up task list in Windows 8

Alt-Tab brings up a task list in Windows 8 just as it has in previous versions of Windows. I do not know, however, how to bring up a task in without a physical keyboard.

The task list includes both Metro apps as well as legacy desktop applications.
